Don't add me please!

Isn't it amusing to see one friend's request waiting for you to be accepted each morning? Well, it happens to you if you are a girl and have a deceptive looking display picture. And come to think of it, you always put up the best looking picture of yours unless you are married for less than a year as in that case, you have a picture with your better half. After a year or two, you shift back to the game of putting up the best looking picture!

I am no exception to this! I am very photogenic and those who have seen me personally vouch for that. "Pictures are deceptive" fits to the tee in my case! Am I complaining? Hell no!! I am fine with looking good in pictures and receiving those raving comments!

But what irks me is those random fraandship requests, those stupid mails from roadside romeos - eww! Are people so desperate to be friends with any girl whom they don't even know? What pleasure do they get by having them in their friends' list? Not that they are going to get some kind of pleasure by having chicks on the list! Weirdos!

And there are requests from bloggers too. They add to increase readership, or just interact beyond blogs. Some people even have facebook account with their blog name. I did add a few bloggers initially, but they were the people I read and interacted regularly. Slowly they became a part of friends' list and still continue to remain there.

The nice me had even added a few people I had never interacted with. I eventually removed them as they continued to remain dormant in my more personal virtual world too. A few kept trying their lucks by adding me again and again, I had to either block them or stop them from sending me requests. People see a few common friends and add blindly. Now there are very very few bloggers are there on my list whom I have not met so far. The number would not be more than 4-5.  Rest all of them I have met at some point in time or removed them conveniently!

People, I hope you have got the message loud and clear! I am done with adding bloggers and others. Don't even try to add me if you do not know me!

  2. Neha! I completely understand what you mean about all this. I get this all the time on facebook. Half of the time I don't even know them. And a few I know from back in the days I am like why are you adding me on facebook if you never really talked to me in person before? Just to have more people on your friend list? It's lame. I don't accept everyone that request me. I only accept those that I talk in a daily basic as well or family members. On blogs I only add those I like to read all the time or has information on mumbai that will help me with my transition move to mumbai.

  6. Getting invites from unknown people is something which will irk any one. And some of them don't even have a proper photograph as DP.

  8. I agree with "deceptive". True in my case. And I keep staring at mine, wondering why don't I look like this in my real life! As for your profile pics, yeah, those are deceptive too. you are better-looking in reality.
As for adding bloggers, I only add the ones whom you do. Simple. Finito. Done.

  10. Yes, random friendships are a no-no.

Those who know you well, like your blogger friends like me, enjoy your friendship.

Keep writing, your style is bold, direct and candid, I enjoy reading your posts.

  11. OH-we havent met yet , but, I think we are on each others friends list? Are we?
I find friends requestson FB very irritating. At one time I had over 200 which i have brought down to under 100.
You are photogenic, and there isnt any doubt about it.I still feel your first DP has been the best so far.

  12. Totally agree... you know it was okay before adding people and stuff, but then it starting increasing like a sandstorm.
Its really sad. Some bloggers had to create pseudo profiles and now we have to add both of them.
    Sigh

  15. I have around 100 FB friend request pending and have been removing people from my friend list too. And for the very reason, I deleted my account from Orkut. It gets on your nerves and the kind of messages that come along with the requests are both irritating and hilarious!

And we are FB friends, right, though we haven't met :)

  30. Neha,

First visit to your space. Read current posts. You do call a spade a spade. This is good trait as it does ensure avoiding unwanted attention. Delhi is no better weatherwise except that it is not as humid as Mumbai.

    Take care

  31. Most of us start of as strangers in life.Who is born with all those friends?.
I have made some good friends through blogging. If I had refused their requests, I would have lost out.I don't think I would ever insist that strangers shouldn't visit my blog.

But this is your blog and you have full rights to decide who should read that.
