About Bloggers etc.

I have been planning to write this post for a long time now. I was procrastinating as it is not so relevant for most of my readers. Ah, call me fortunate here, as most people I read and who read me don't indulge much into contests and likes! So far, I have participated in BPL (and our team won that. Such a big show off I am :P) which was also way too taxing for me. That was probably the last time I took part in a contest.

The shy me runs away from popularity. I somehow cannot ask people to even read/comment on my post. Imagine asking for votes from them! I prefer to stay in my shell than going to people for reading/acknowledging my work.

But not everyone is as dumb as me, especially when the stakes are as high as 50k! People can literally go for a kill. Trust me, I am not exaggerating at all! I have seen people abusing, disgracing, reporting and blocking others just to win contests. Fake profiles are created, groups are made, others are harassed and what not is done just to win a contest. Rather, win 50k. There have been such contests in the past with smaller amounts at stake, and nobody even bothered to participate. Now suddenly there is an outburst of participation! Money talks!

I have nothing against those who participate, but it is not a right thing to torture others for votes and comments. I am too blunt to tell you not to do so, but there are others who do care about maintaining good relationship with you. Thus they never tell you even if you spam their mailbox with vote appeals.

Those who are not affected by the vote appeal, let me give you a fact: Each day, we receive 50 to 60 mails asking for votes from different people! I envy most of you as I know nobody bothers you with such nonsense.

I so far never uttered anything about the spamming part too; but when a few bloggers started behaving like a bunch of mean and hurt hypocrites, I lost it. I don't even want to get into the details, as I prefer to name them directly, but they are all "respected" bloggers and I do not want to start a war as my peace of mind is more dear to me than getting into their immature turfs!

All I want to request (read: warn) you guys that please don't bother me with such nonsense stuff. I am not interested!

Today only I came across another contest organizer who gave a slightly biased decision which according to me was unfair. But more on that, later as I do not yet have all the details of it. I prefer to play safe unlike others who say things without confirming the facts (remember Restless and her post bashing me? :P)! Ah, I love to drag this thing again and again in my posts! I do give people so much of free publicity! This is the major reason I have stopped giving linkback to people. I don't even want those 10 people who read me to click on their page and give them more hits!

  1. I have always wondered about those contests. Spamming your mailbox begging for votes is one thing. But who are these self-proclaimed judges and contest holders? They are regular blogger as me or you. What qualification or authority they have to hold such contests? Their results are always biased.

I would not want some amateur to judge my writing and approve or disapprove it!!

    Stay away from it!

  2. You tooo.. he heheeh There is a war going on out there.. as you would have noticed on Fb and other places..

These guys are getting on my nerves too.. I remember writing a article on the Vote for me episode..

Its a disgrace.. and that too a BIG ONE...

People here have got nothing better to do rather then all this.. but then 50K is a big amount , you get a couple its a LAKH.. but then Me on other side has lost all confidence in this Blogging thing tooo...

To me all it has done is get me some good friends but lots and lots of pain and hassel.. now wondering was it worth it ...

BPL was good I enjoyed , I think NO prize money was good, the teams jsut wanted to win , it had a few issues on judging there too, but that goes with the territory since it was there first one, I enjoyed being part of it ...

I bet if these contests has no prize the participation will decrease ...

  3. As you rightly said, these so-called "respected" bloggers rarely or never participate in contests where there is no prize money involved. Spamming and begging for votes is a petty way to try and win. Maybe the contest organizers should simply say, "The only prize we offer is respect."
I wonder how many bloggers would stay out of those contests, then!

  6. Because it is held at someone's blog, the nuances of the contest are up to them. Some people like this kind of silly stuff.Let them. The problem is like yours, when it becomes a nuisance.

  9. hey,

this is my 1st time here, being a kid to blog-o-sphere I was totally unaware of all these tactics (or whatever you may call it)
where ever money gets involved people tend to forget every thing else.

  10. I so agree with you. So far I haven't experienced this but I can imagine what stress it might cause. Some people have no scruples when it comes to winning a contest and if there is money involved it can turn nasty...am so glad am not part of the rat race.
Good post, Neha..it's nice to know what's going on out there.

  15. blogging is supposed to be a platform to voice your feelings, opinions etc...i did not want it to become commercialized. But alas even blogosphere has become commercialized.

  16. I have stopped participating in contests. Well, asking for votes and begging for votes aren't same, right?

  17. Its true neha!! but its not happening everytime.. but sometimes it happens..

As like you.. I can never ask somebody to vote for me.. but the contests are running like that to get maximum hit to their site.. what can we do?? :( :(

  18. Sigh! Once upon a time blogging was just that, blogging...

  19. I got so bored of competitions, that I am not participating in any. But for some reason, I dont feel its wrong if someone just reminds you saying they are participating in the contest. Since I dont follow these contests, I sometimes am not aware and even though I would have read it, wouldnt have voted for the person. I think it is fine but what I find annoying is that some people keep asking repeatedly.

  20. You are right; it is a huge nuisance. These contests are huge spams, and I think people should boycott them and those bloggers who create a nuisance. Just filter them out.

  21. Such people are simply insecure attention seekers! Ignore is the word for them.

Enjoy your writing, as you are doing this for yourself. No one has the right to pass a judgement on others' work!

  22. being on and off in the blogworld...i'm missing so much.

contests?? what are they???spamming for votes??? can't really believe it.

Bloggers are supposed to be free-thinkers. And thats why we are here.

  23. I hope that the concerned people get the message loud and clear.

  24. I write because I want to. Others ask votes because they want to. I believe 'each to himself.'

  25. Life will go on, with or without these people !!

I have refrained from participating in any contest or voting anywhere ! Consciously choosing to connect with like minded bloggers and consciously choosing to ignore the rest !

I am not sure if i am right in doing this or if the others are wrong. I pass no judgements on those that do otherwise !

just that, this seems to work for me !! And i will plough on !!

Just sharing with you !! Relax ! :)

  26. I few times respect such e.mails And yep go for voting etc. but very seldom. Most of the time to be honest I even not having time to read what others write which I feel bad because many are blog readers And they comment as well. I wish I can visit them no matter contest or not sometimes if not most of the time. Anyways, Thank you Neha for the comment on the newest blog. Thanks a lot. Let me know how is Makhane ki Kheer when you prepare the same but add sugar a little because I have added as per our family taste which is little more.

  28. Asking for votes belittles yourself and the ones who blindly vote just because he/she has "asked" is also to blame.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have avoided such contests and never even acknowledged.
As for asking for votes, wee, nothing can be more stupid and idiotic than this.

  30. thank god I never get such emails or requests or whatevers !!!
