My curious mind wants to ask you something...

A big thank you to all my fellow bloggers for appreciating my last post – The Ultimate Painting...It was my second attempt to write a fiction and first ever of my own plot...and I would like to give the Patience and Courage award to everyone who commented there as it was indeed a very depressing post...No no, not another sticker to paste on your blog...sigh, even i love it, but well, for time being, be happy with the feelings and not the sticker...all of you deserve it as you all read it and commented wonderful things...and I know it was too heavy for all of you to handle because leaving alone couple of people (Swatantra and Merlin), nobody noticed the new look of my blog – new new template...with new template I tried the new genre as well...so what else now? Something new again right...

Well, I got this idea from the tags that do a round on this blogger’s world...this one is not a tag, but my curious and empty mind over the weekend kept bothering me with few questions...very basic ones, but I expect honest answers to all of them from everybody reading this post...these are the questions about little little things, expressions, emoticons we use while typing anything – be it a post, a comment, an e-mail or a chat, we use these small and amusing things always...I won’t say much about them, as my questions will reveal it all...so here they go:

DISCLAIMER: KINDLY POST YOUR ANSWERS AS A COMMENT, I WOULD APPRECIATE THAT...AS A CREATOR OF THIS IDEA AND POST, I HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS AT A LATER STAGE, BUT I SURELY WILL ANSWER THEM.

1) Do you laugh when you write LOL; or are you actually rolling on the floor when you say ROFL; or when you say LMAO do you actually um, you know what I mean. (this question also applies to haha and hehe being typed)

2) Do you express the emotion while typing the emoticons? Do you smile while typing :-), or wink when ;-) or make a sad face when :-( etc. etc.

3) What are you trying to say when you type hmmm? Is it a yes, or a no, or a may be, or you don’t know, or you getting bored with the conversation or there is another interpretation to it?

4) When you comment as “I am speechless” and do not write anything else, what does it mean? You really liked it or you hated it? (“It depends” as an answer is not accepted here, be very honest or do not answer. Your silence will convey your feelings better)

5) What is going on in your mind while reading this question? (Please answer this question first)

Couple of additional questions asked by Abstract Scientist.

1. Has anyone left the comment 'wow' just for the sake of commenting?

2. Have anyone been thrown off their seats when someone comments that they have been crying after reading your article?

Please answer these as well...

Thank you for your valuable time that you guys took out to read this post. A special and advance thank you to all who have chosen to answer these questions. Cheers :-) (A genuine smile always comes on my face when I mention the word “Cheers”)

PS: You all are free to put this or the altered questionnaire on your blogs too, as this is not my copyright, but i would call it a "Crappyright".

  1. 1> Yes i do...I do smile when i feel and type it.. I don't literally do ROFL, but if i am at home and reading my post if it makes me laughing my heart out, i can say it's equivalently ROFL..I had never used LMAO :)

    2>Isn't #1 & #2 same question? I could not find the difference..so same answer as of #1...

3>It is certainly not a definite "Yes" or "No"..it is sometimes i am thinking..or may be not agreeing..may be i am trying to judge ur personality :)..but not really i am bored

4>Actually i so much liked it that i have no proper English words to express it, may be in my mother tongue, i would be able to do better judgment, but because in English, i know that all the words coming to my mind at that very moment don't exactly convey what i wanted to express..i say speechless..

5>Actually truly nothing really came..i genuinely enjoyed answering these..may be because I know i am telling the truth :)

  2. 1. My extreme expression would be LOL and I LOL when I write it. I havent used the other two.

    2. Yes, the emoticon typed is exactly what my face would be expressing.

    3. Hmm most times is "Yes, I am listening".

    4. I loved it to the core that I have no words in my vocabulary to express how much I liked.

    5. Interesting. Things such as this thats so much part of us goes unnoticed.

Glad that you put them here. enjoyed reading and answering.

  3. Hi... good work...so Lemme get to the questionnaire...

    1. I say lol only when sumthin i read was tht funny n i really mean it when i say it... n its true.. I do laugh out loud...loud enuff for my mom to peep in to the room n ask me whats so funny?

    2. I do smile when i use :)... The emoticons I use r always those tht r seen on my face... :D

    3. Hmmm... can mean many things.. like,

I am listening, pls go on...

    or..

oh..kay.. so what do i say for this??? no comments...

    or...
evn.. Oh.. so thts wat it was all bout???

so, whenevr I type Hmmmm.. my next sentence would be Hmmmm as in any of the above.. I make it a point to explain it :)

    4. I m speechless might really convey tht the words in my limited vocabulary r not enuff to xplain what i feel.. i use it now n then.. esp when sumone does sumthin which makes me so so happy tht i get lost for words...

    5. A lovely attempt... this wil help clear up many things...

    :) :) :)

  4. @ Mustaf, thank you for ur honest answers...

about point 1 and 2, i dont think they are the same...again, it depends from person to person...thank u for taking out time to answer these..

@ insignia, so true, such things go unnoticed by us, as we are very occupied doing important things...I was doing nothing, thus these things came to my mind, and the result is, ahem, in front of u...thank you for answering..

  5. @ hobo, I can understand...after-effects of mustard oil i guess??

  6. I saw you on SG's post and came here and then saw we have many similarities like we like tea and both are saggi:)..so wanted to chk the blog. and found this new type of tag.

I mean everything I write even the symbols, for me LOl means I am laughing at that joke or post.

:)..means it is bringing a smile to my face.

    Hmm means I am thinking.

So far I have used speechless only in positive sense.

  7. (Neha said... @ hobo, I can understand...after-effects of mustard oil i guess??)

    And I had a laugh.
And you had the reply for the post.

  8. 1. I do not use LOL , ROFL, but do use Hahahah and hehehe and they are true to what they depict. I would have to roll down on the floor to type ahaha and ehehe.
    2. I dont use emoticons. i tried it when I was younger but couldnt cram all those shortcuts, poor student me.
3.hmmm, means pondering for me. i ponder when i say hmmmmm.
    4. I dont say Iam speechless. Sometimes it means I am jealous.
    5. I am thinking that someone has tickled what has been going on my mind for a while but has pipped me to publish it. I am speechless.(read above points careflly)

    My Questions
    1. Has anyone left the comment 'wow' just for the sake of commenting?
    2. Have anyone been thrown off their seats when someone comments that they have been crying after reading your article?

  9. @ Renu, welcome here...it always feels so very nice to meet another chai lover...and sagi connection doubles it up...thank u for your honest answers...keep visiting...

    @ hobo, :) - keep guessing...

@ AS,ur couple of answers are ditto like mine...kewl kewl...and am I supposed to answer these questions too? well I am including ur answers in my post...let's see how others react to it..

    ReplyDelete
  10. 5. Supposed to answer this first. The thought going through my mind: this is one honest girl (hope you don't mind that term) whose comments I can believe. A girl after my own heart.

1/2. They are the only way I can make people understand the tone of what I try to say. So yes, I am honestly doing what I write always. honesty comes naturally to me. Except sometimes I use :P when I want to stick out my tongue but thankfully no one can guess that. :) (this does mean I am smiling!)

    3. "Hmm" used when I have nothing to say or don't wanna say, just acknowledging or when being obtuse or disinterested or non-committal (wow!)

    4. Sometimes words themselves are not enough for me to express all that is in me, that too in silico, so I never misuse words to describe what I don't feel. If I did then i wud nvr b able to use them wen I really feel that way. The value gets lost.

    PART II
    1.Err... don't really remember.

    2. I have read people comment that they have cried but never on my posts. I don't like making people crying. It's easier to make people cry than to make them feel good and happy till long after.

Okay, you called for it! I am writing a post in your comment's section. But the questions were very insightful. Couldn't resist myself.

*sigh* And they say keep your posts short and simple! I wonder they would say if they saw this comment!! :D

@ R. Ramesh, really? well ur post was more hilarious..thanks for liking my template...few still have failed to notice...

  13. Hi:-)

Came again as I just remember something on the same context but from the other side..

How do you feel when you see that someone has commented just for the sake of doing it and didn't mean it e.g. just a "wow" or may be "nice" or something on the same line and then you go through the dilemma whether to publish or reject the comment, because u just dont want to be appreciated by someone where the appreciation is not real!!

  14. Hi girlie :)
My first time here :)I love your template!!Its so cute re!!
    Coming to your questions!
    1. I smile when i Type LOL, I don't use the other two!

    2.Yes I do!!

3.hmmm-->In my dictionary it means, am thinking of a manageable reply

4.When i type, I am Speechless, i mean am quite impressed with the way they have written a post!

5.In my mind : Is this lawyer taking a survey?

    Extra questions:
    1. I never do that,if i feel a post is not worth commenting, i will return without commenting!

2.I don't have an answer for this, because i never write such posts!

You changed me as an introspect within few minutes :) (Am smiling really)

    Keep Smiling!

    ReplyDelete
  15. @ Mustaf, I reply them in my own sarcastic manner, or post a sarcastic comment on their post and pray that they get it at least...I never comment on the posts i am not convinced about, as nobody can take the honesty these days...hope I have answered ur question honestly...

@ shruti, welcome here...thanks for the compliment...I wanted something but a cute template, but well, this gives me positive vibes...aha, u can call it a lawyer's survey, you know making my readers confess few things...just kidding...these questions amuses me, so just checking what others think about them...keep visiting..

  17. Hi Neha! My first time here. I loved this questionnaire...
1>For me I do laugh when I write Hehe or Heehee. LOL sounds sarcastic, so I use it seldom.
2>Yeah,I do express the emoticons...and I've never noticed this till now:)
3>Hmmmm for me means I am listening, and keep it coming.
4>"I am speechless" most of the times means I didn't like it so much or hated it too sometimes.
5>While reading this question I am appreciating the questions and the honesty with which I am answering:)

    It was fun:)

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ NR, thank u for ur answers..what made me come up with this? well, I have answered that in the post...

  21. Nice post. Here are my answers:

    1. I smile when I write LOL. But I am definitely not on the floor when I write ROFL.

    2. I certainly have that expression on my face when I use emoticon. But I use very rarely.

    3. To me, hmmm, means "sigh" as in "hmmm what can I do".

    4. Most of the time i like it when I write "speechless", but sometimes it is not.

    5. Thinking how an inquisitive mind works.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. I never use lol and rofl. I have said haha or hehe occassionally and that too because I have genuinely found it funny.

    2.I never use emoticon.

    3. Hmmm means 'let me think.'

4.If I say speechless, that is probably because I really do not have anything good or bad to say.

I generally do not leave comments just for the sake of comments. Though, to be honest, I did that when I started to blog. Now I comment only when I feel I have something to say.

I really do not believe it when someone says my post made him/her cry.

Coming to your blog after sometime. The template looks attractive, but the blue letters on the maroon body hurt my eyes a bit.

  25. 1) Do you laugh when you write LOL; or are you actually rolling on the floor when you say ROFL; or when you say LMAO do you actually um, you know what I mean. (This question also applies to haha and hehe being typed).

Ans: Hehe!! (yea yea smiling now!!) Yes I do Laugh Out Loud when I write LOL! It’s very very very rare that I Roll On the Floor Laughing, so I don’t use ROTFL much! Well and the LMAO.. Well I’m yet to find out HOW to do that: P

    2) Do you express the emotion while typing the emoticons? Do you smile while typing :-), or wink when ;-) or make a sad face when :-( etc. etc.

Ans: Yes!! I do. I wink, I smile and I frown when I put in those emoticons!! ( :P see I’m doing them now! )

    3) What are you trying to say when you type hmmm? Is it a yes, or a no, or a may be, or you don’t know, or you getting bored with the conversation or there is another interpretation to it?

Ans: “Hmmmm” is the BEST FILLER IN THE WORLD!!! I use it when I’m thinking, when I’m bored and when I’m damn angry!!!

    4) When you comment as “I am speechless” and do not write anything else, what does it mean? You really liked it or you hated it? (“It depends” as an answer is not accepted here, be very honest or do not answer. Your silence will convey your feelings better).

Ans: Aha! That is a good one! “I’m speechless” is reserved only for things that surprise me (like the previous post of yours – I was truly SPEECHLESS!!).

    5) What is going on in your mind while reading this question? (Please answer this question first)

Ans: How could you come up with such a quirky questioner! Some fun this is!!

Couple of additional questions asked by Abstract Scientist.

    1. Has anyone left the comment 'wow' just for the sake of commenting?

Ans: ON whose post?? Mine?? NAAAh!! NEVAA!!

    2. Have anyone been thrown off their seats when someone comments that they have been crying after reading your article?

    Ans: Never happened to me!!

    God this was fun!!! Haha!!

    Good one Neha!

  26. 1) LOL,ROFL are used as acknowledgements to let knw the person on the other side, that I actually understood that he\she tried to crack a joke!If it was a really funny,I jus smile, not laugh out loud or roll on the floor!

2)No way..I dont smile or wink. These smileys help make the converstaion to appear real.I would hav done those expressions when I actually speak with u in reality! So I use it while chatting to make it sound real, though virtual! N u see I wink very often at ppl :P

    3) "Hmm" is always a positive acknowledgement surely and used only when the person is busy.So better understand when the first "Hmm" comes, better stop the chat saying u r leaving now!

4)I dont use that term! If I had used while commenting in any post,it must be out of sheer joy of reading a wonderful stuff!

5)Tough question actually!Lots of thoughts clogging my mind now! Wil let u knw personally and one thing s for sure..I hav decided not to use all the above mentioned smileys n expressions with u :D
    Cheers..gud post...

  41. 1) I really laugh when I write LOL and literally try not to fall of the chair when I write ROFL... never used LMAO :)
    2) Emoticons express what I feel, a smilies means I smiles and a wink means a wink
    3) hmmm... frankly that I use when I dnt hv anything else to say... I mean if the post didnt appeal to me much :P
4)I like it when some write that they are speechless... would take it in positive way... BUT I NEVER USE WHEN... :)
    5) hehe there are actually some post that can make you cry... :)

  43. 1) Do you laugh when you write LOL; or are you actually rolling on the floor when you say ROFL; or when you say LMAO do you actually um, you know what I mean. (this question also applies to haha and hehe being typed)

A: I always laugh out loud when I say lol.... however when I say ROFL I am laughing more than when I say LOL, but its not possible to roll on the floor given the very formal European work culture (I am usually in the office when I chat! :P ) Never used LMAO.

    2) Do you express the emotion while typing the emoticons? Do you smile while typing :-), or wink when ;-) or make a sad face when :-( etc. etc.

I always smile when I send :), but people will think I am crazy if I keep winking at my laptop screen. However I am sure that if I was talking to the person IRL, I would have surely winked!

    3) What are you trying to say when you type hmmm? Is it a yes, or a no, or a may be, or you don’t know, or you getting bored with the conversation or there is another interpretation to it?

A: When I say hmmmm.. I am thinking about what was said, I do not have any response. I am thoughtful, chewing on what was just said. I dont believe in giving wise crack answers to everything everyone says, sometimes I just think.. and say hmmm...

    4) When you comment as “I am speechless” and do not write anything else, what does it mean? You really liked it or you hated it? (“It depends” as an answer is not accepted here, be very honest or do not answer. Your silence will convey your feelings better)

A: I am speechless when I am shocked. Out of happiness or sorrow, out of love or hatred. Shock brings a lack of words...

    5) What is going on in your mind while reading this question? (Please answer this question first)

A: I was wondering what would be your answers to the same questions :) And what kind of person you are on a chat!

    6. Has anyone left the comment 'wow' just for the sake of commenting?

A: Never. Thats like giving a false complement to someones thoughts or feelings. I would hate if someone would do that to me. And I would never do that unless I really go "wow" in my mind when I read something.

    7. Have anyone been thrown off their seats when someone comments that they have been crying after reading your article?
A: LOL. No. I have read things that have really touched me, made me reflective, even inspired me to write something on the same topic. But never something that has made me cry. Hence I think that when a person says they have been "crying" I just interpret that as my article/post has touched the person, not literally made him/her cry. Hence I havent exactly been "thrown off my seat" :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. well Merlin and all, here are my answers:

1.I rarely use LOL...when I do, it means I am laughing at that thing and ROFL, when I find it way too hilarious...a long hahahaha means again i found it hilarious, and only haha is to convey my sarcasm sweetly:)

    2) I use emoticons again to hide my sarcasm...but tht's rarely, otherwise it's just my way of expressing what's my take on the comment or anything...and when I use a smiley in my comment, that serves the purpose of a kind of signature..

    3) I use hmmm when I am pondering...

    4) I use speechless in rarest of the rare cases as I rarely lack words being such a blabbering person...

    5) I was wondering whether people would actually take a pain to answer my stupid questions?

answers for the questions asked by AS are:

    1) I never comment on the posts i am not convinced about...so writing not only wow, but even ok does not come from me at all if i don't mean it...

    2) well, AS, your comment on my latest post was very honest, and tht was my favourite too...i somehow love criticism about me than praises (weird na)..and i love people who have the ability to bring out sarcasm outta their writing...i have been trying to learn it since long, but no success so far:(
